Some of my favourites, though I'm very bad at remembering what movies I actually like.

I've seen most of these. Why isn't Eraserhead on here?
I just saw Cannibal Holocaust a little while ago. Its damn good.

I think Eraserhead lacks pacing to the degree where I wouldn't want to recommend it. It's a nice flick, but I don't think it's in the same league as the movies listed above. Movies should be both entertaining and interesting.

I can see your reasoning and assumed you would have a good reason. Eraserhead is a personal movie.
I still haven't seen El Topo or Holy Mountain yet. My brother and I are looking for a copy at stores, but can't seem to find one. Other than that I've seen most of the other movies.

I had to laugh. Despite having seen and enjoying most of them, it's still a list of some freaky movies. For anyone who isn't familiar with it, you should definitely go look up teh history of Cannibal Holocaust.

I just watched Holy Mountain a week or so ago! That is one good film man! It truly is an imporant film to watch. Great ending too. I love the part of the movie when they are going over the 7 disciple people. Its cool how all that silly stuff is forgotten when they go to the mountain immediately it seems.
A+ Thanks for the recommendation.

Glad you liked it! El Topo is slightly better in my opinion, but both of them are definitely A+ movies.
An interesting thing about Holy Mountain is that most of the stuff in it actually has meaning and there is many references to stuff like tarot and alchemy.

Although I could not understand the movie that much, my brother was able to piece together various symbols and relate them to the occult and stuff. They are definitely important movies to see.
My brother also said El Topo was a better movie and he said he is going to buy the box set someday.

All the films in this list, that I know, are one's that I would recommand as well. Except for PI. I was exalted when I saw it the first time. It really creates a great atmosphere. But after seeing it the second time I found it lacking at some points. I think that the biggest problem with it is that it seems like if they wanted to create a movie for a huge base. There are elements that are just too flat, things are explained in a way that everybody can understand them without thinking too much. Good movie but not a great one I would say.

There's several reasons to why I recommend it. One is that it's not like any other film I've ever seen. And it's also very atmospheric and enchanting the first time you see it. Even if it isn't as intelligent as it seems to the untrained eye, it's centered around some very interesting ideas. Personally I don't care if it all adds up or not, the movie just has a surreal feeling that I really like from beginning to end.

I haven't seen Pi, but Requiem for a Dream, by the same director, is one of my favorite movies. It is the best movie I've ever seen cinematically. I'd definitely suggest checking it out.

I've seen it, and I agree. It's a great movie, even though the actual storyline isn't all that good. I would never have rented it if I hadn't known that it was directed by the guy who did Pi, and some friends recommending the movie. Hearing the plot didn't make it sound good at all. I'd have put it on the list, but it's just a bit too close to being a "normal" drama movie. Maybe I should reconsider though... Speaking of Aronofsky, I wasn't convinced by his latest flick, The Fountain, which was a bit of a disappointment. Too bad. I hope his next movie is more interesting

Meh. I loved The Fountain. Good to see the director able to change the subject of his films so much - it's still Aronofsky-esque, but the topic covered is something more, hmm... fable-like? Or maybe more about life.
Requiem for a Dream is simply amazing. True, there's little storyline in it, but it's a movie you watch to see the expressionist execution - and that's pulled out perfectly. By the final scenes the film is, literally, painful.

Yeah, fable-like is a very good description, which points out the side of the movie that I don't like. I did think it was a good film, and it almost brought a tear to my eye during one scene, but I like films that inspire me. The Fountain affected me, and it was pretty cool, but I didn't feel like I'd ever want to make a movie like that.
