Cactus you have to see this movie. Its called Funny Games. Heres a trailer for the movie: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ec-70W_K77UDon't look at any other videos because they tend to spoil some cool parts of the movie. Its very smart. There is an older French version of the movie but the same director made a shot to shot remake of it in English. I personally like the bad guys in this better so check the new one out.

I've heard good things about it but I'm not sure I like the subject of the movie. It sounds more unpleasant than interesting from what I've read, haha.

I've seen the Austrian version and I must say that it's absolutely not funny, there's no overall good message, it's extremely unpleasent and absolutely worth seeing it. One of the best movies I've ever seen. There's less physical violance than in an typical afternoon-thriller but it's the cruelest mvoie I know. You really feel relieved when it's over. But why you should see it is that it really makes you reflect on how you watch movies and how vioalance is shown in movies.

Glad you understand the point of the movie.
I hope not to give away much spoilers, but to clear up some of my thoughts, I think the reason why the family didn't fight back much is because they are fairly rich people, and I think the director was also saying something about that too, how the wealthy don't know how to defend themselves.
I hate it though when people say "needed more blood", which is funny because the movie is making a statement AGAINST that.

Thousands of people were thrown all over the place but the most liquid ever seen was a bottle of water.

I was only talking about Funny Games though, not any other movie.

If that's the only problem you found with the movie, you need to watch it again. On the subject of this topic's titular game, I was in Russia for the past week and a half, and I was rather amused to see that a Russian-dubbed version is now being shown in theaters there. Being a shot-for-shot remake, with the only difference being the language spoken, that has to be kind of a hard sell. I'm not going to see Funny Games because the director really annoys me: "My films are intended as polemical statements against the American 'barrel down' cinema and its dis-empowerment of the spectator. They are an appeal for a cinema of insistent questions instead of false (because too quick) answers, for clarifying distance in place of violating closeness, for provocation and dialogue instead of consumption and consensus." Being American myself, I take offense at this statement. Has he ever seen an Asian movie? He has also said that he made Funny Games English-language because he wasn't reaching an American audience with it. I feel scapegoated and I boycott his movies > : (

You sound like a total idiot, and I'm pretty sure that you don't even understand what he means.
I saw the movie two weeks ago. I loved it. Tim Roth is excellent.

Don't be so hostile erty. Anyway, I'm a bit drunk so I can't make sense of the quote in Ronnoc's post, but I sort of agree with it. He's probably only talking about the general american audience and not every american on the planet. I believe that most of the people in my country are stupid simpletons who only watch drama movies about infidelity or crime themed cop movies, so I don't see the reason to boycott Funny Games because of that quote. Most people aren't interested in good movies, and I can't see any country where this isn't true.
If someone said that all swedes were assholes, I wouldn't be offended. I have no nationalist spirit at all (at least not in that sense). I like people who are able to take things like that with humour instead of anger.

My point is, I see no reason to scapegoat a single country for something that I see to be world wide. Omar: Please explain to me what he means.

Well I do agree it is worldwide. Most people in this world are dumb.
